Costa Blanca Information
The Costa Blanca (white coast) is situated at the southeast side of Spain and is covering an area of approximately 150 miles of coast line. The area starts in the North with Denia and is stretching south wise until La Manga del Mar Menor. The Costa Blanca accommodates lots of famous smaller and bigger towns having been able to keep their traditional culture and history. Some examples are Altea, Villajoyosa, Alicante, Orihuela, Elche, Murcia, Cartagena. Although these towns kept their own identity, they managed to meet the standard of living of the foreigners coming from the North of Europe. Due to its good geographical position, the Costa Blanca has only 2 seasons: summer and spring. With more than 300 sunny days a year, large beaches, nice promenades, picturesque villages and all imaginable facilities, it is for a lot of people the ideal area to live. Moreover with the international airports of Alicante and Murcia, the whole area is within good accessibility through a large network of new motorways.
The capital of the province, Alicante, is situated in the middle of the Costa Blanca, dividing the Costa Blanca in a northern and southern part. The division is also reflected in a different landscape.
The north is characterised by twisty roads in a hilly and green area with lots of small bays, almond trees and olives. This is the more traditional part of the Costa Blanca. A remarkable exception is Benidorm, the tower city, hosting an enormous number of hotels, shops and services.
The south is characterised by its long sandy beaches, salt lakes and flat landscapes cultivating tomatoes, peppers, lemons, melons and oranges. This part is having the best and healthiest climate of Spain. In a ray of 14 miles you have the possibility to play golf on a variety of 18 hole courses and there is yet more to come. In different marinas with several hundreds of moorings, water sport freaks can practise their favourite sport. So in brief the Costa Blanca has a lot to offer.
Costa Cálida Information
The Costa Calida (Murcia) is situated on the south east coast of the Iberian Peninsula along the Mediterranean Sea. Murcia has a coastal line of 250 km long. It starts at the beach of La Carolina, near Águilas, just over the border of Almería and finishes at the beach of El Mojón where the province of Alicante (Costa Blanca) begins.
This coastal line with 315 sunny days a year and an average temperature of 17ºC gives access to two different seas: the Mar Menor, the largest salt lake of the world and the Mediterranean Sea with its fantastic beaches and a great variety of coastal areas. Mar Menor is separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow peninsula with a length of 22 kilometres: La Manga del Mar Menor, a real paradise for any kind of water sports.
The Costa Calida is joint to the north with the Costa Blanca and to the south with the Costa de Almería. The most important towns in this area are Cartagena, Mazarrón, Murcia, Águilas and Mojácar.
The Costa Calida not only offers us sun and beach. The town of Cartagena lodges a multitude of archaeology treasures, modernistic architecture and interesting museums, a port city with a rich history which goes back for over three thousand years.
Important chapters of the description of this coast are the fiestas, a great amount of folkloristic meetings full of colour, light, music and tradition.
Last but not least is the exquisite Mediterranean kitchen what consist of a perfect combination of fish, seafood and shellfish with products of the fields. And please do not forget the friendly people offering their hospitality so you will feel home.
