Mandatory health insurance for foreigners

Citizens of the European Union and their relatives who want to spend more than three months in Spain without working, must prove that they have a public or private medical insurance, hired in this or in another country that provides coverage similar to that offered by the National Health System (Sistema Nacional de Salud), as well as sufficient economic resources to maintain themselves during their stay. This is specified in a Ministerial Order of the Presidency that has come into force in July of the year 2017.
