News for expats on COVID-19 - update 15.05.2020

The official state bulletin (BOE) publishes today an extension to the 15th of June of restrictions and controls on non-essential travel to Spain. Therefore, it is currently still  not allowed to come to your second home in Spain.

The Ministry of Health and the Autonomous Regions will meet this Friday to study the obligation for using mouthmasks in public spaces. Something that is not easy, because there are arguments for and against it. Mouthmasks are currently already obliged on public transportation and in spaces where the 2 meters cannot be kept. On the street, the mouthmasks are not obliged but it is highly recommended and especially for older people and people with risk factors.

The Townhall from Orihuela allows from today 15th of May that 5 different beaches can be used for walking but only within the set times. The beaches that are open for this are Punta Prima, Cala Estaca, Cala Bosque, La Caleta y Barranco Rubio. Professionals and federated athletes can use one of the 11 beaches of Orihuela Costa to practice their sport.

We want to remind everyone again that according to publications in the BOE, it is strictly forbidden to sunbath, swim or simply sit on the sand. The Ministry of Health is also investigating the conditions under which the communal pools can be re-opened.
