Guide to Your First Christmas in Your New Home in Orihuela Costa

Moving into a new home in Orihuela Costa in December can be just as exciting as it is overwhelming. Alongside the change of country, special dates are approaching which, if enjoyed properly, can become the first great memory of this new chapter in Spain. That’s why, at BL Promotions, we want to share some practical advice and useful recommendations so you can make the most of your first Christmas on the Costa Blanca.

First steps after moving: essential practical arrangements

Before putting up the Christmas tree or looking for the best festive treats, it’s important to have a few practical matters in order. Here is a useful checklist:

  • Empadronamiento (local registration): Visit the Town Hall to register as a resident on the municipal register. This step is essential in order to access healthcare, schools and other local services.

  • Utilities: If you haven’t already done so, make sure you change the ownership of electricity, water and internet contracts. Our office can guide you through the main providers.

  • Healthcare: Orihuela Costa has public health centres (such as Aguamarina) as well as private clinics. To access public healthcare, you will need to be registered locally and have a Spanish Social Security number.

  • Schools: If you have children, this is a good time to find out about local schools. There are state, subsidised and private options with education in several languages.

How to settle into your surroundings: neighbourhood, leisure and local life

One of the most appreciated aspects for those buying a new home in Orihuela Costa is the welcoming, international atmosphere that can be felt all year round. To help you feel at home from the very beginning, we recommend:

  • Taking part in local activities: The area offers language classes, cultural workshops, organised excursions and even group hiking routes.

  • Joining associations or social media groups: There are many international residents’ groups on Facebook and WhatsApp where you can ask questions, meet new people and take part in community events.

  • Discovering local gastronomy and neighbourhood shops: Orihuela Costa is full of bars, restaurants, markets and shops run by people of many different nationalities. It’s a great way to practise the language and support local businesses.

Enjoy your home and celebrate an unforgettable festive season

Your new home in Orihuela Costa is not just a place to live: it’s a space where new traditions begin. Christmas here is celebrated with a charming mix of Spanish customs and international traditions, making it the perfect setting to create unforgettable memories.
