News for expats on COVID-19 - update 14.05.2020

The European Commission, at its meeting yesterday, proposed that the restrictions of free movement between the zones and EU member states should be done in phases and between countries that are in a similar epidemiological situation. In the case of Spain we would then currently talk about the boarders of Portugal and France, although  the European Commission believes that the airspace should be reopened gradually between the EU Member States, but of course always with all necessary measures in travelling and for the hotels, camping sites, etc.

The Spanish Government thinks that they will be ready for the recommendations  of the European Commission at the end of the third and final phase of the measures, which will be more or less on the 24th of June. Until then, it’s important that the provinces and sanitary zones pases to the next phases. The provinces and sanitary zones are expected to hear from the Ministery of Health by next Friday or Saturday, whether they can pass from phase “0” to  phase “1”; among them are Elche and Alicante city, which most likely will happen as they have reached all the conditions to do so.

Meanwhile, we would like to inform you again, that the timetable for the different groups of people who can go outside to walk or to do sports, has not changed and is still in effect. There is no timetable to go to a terrace of a bar or restaurant, although all terraces must be closed at 11 pm.
