News for expats on COVID-19 - update 29.05.2020

Earlier than previous weeks, the Minister of Health approved yesterday that the Comunidad Valenciana can pass to phase “2”, as requested last Wednesday. This means that the entire Region will pass next Monday, the 1st of June, to phase “2”. As well the only village in the Region of Murcia, Totana, which is still in phase “1”, will pass on Monday 1st of June to phase “2”. On the 1st of June, about 70% of the population of Spain, will be in phase “2”. Some Regions will remain in phase “1” and the island of Formentera in Baleares and 3 of the Canary Islands will already pass to phase “3”.

We have previously mentioned that the partners of the EU are stuyding how to re-open borders with common measures  for all countries. Now that there will be islands in Spain that will pass next Monday to phase “3”, and so they will end earlier the plan of de-escalation, it could be that international tourism may be allowed before the 1st of July. This is something which will be decided later after checking the evolution of the virus on the islands. In principle everything will be the same in the rest of Spain, so that means that international tourism will be allowed again on the 1st of July.
The Airline Transavia has announced that it will start flying to Alicante on the 11th of June.  Please note that the restrictions are still in force, the borders are still closed and tourists will not be allowed to enter the country, nor people who have a property in Spain if they are not resident. We would like to emphasize that before you travel, you are well informed about what is and what is not possible, so that you wil not have unpleasant suprises.
