News for expats on COVID-19 - update 19.06.2020

From the 21st of June at midnight the borders of Spain will be opened to people from all the European Union members states and the Schengen Convention and so the state of emergency of the country ends. This is of course very good news, but this year the holidays will be totally different as we cannot forget that the Covid-19 has neither dissapeared from Spain nor from the rest of the world and therefore security measures are obliged for everyone and failure to do so could result in a fine.

Not all countries have the same security measures, but you have to keep in mind that it depends on in which country you are in, to have to comply  with the measures imposed by each country. As a general rule, wearing mouthmasks and keeping the social distance of 1,5 meters is mandatory in many countries, but in Spain a mouthmask must be worn on public streets as well, where social distance cannot be kept.
The beaches are completely open again, but each townhall has its rules that must be followed. There will be employees contracted by the townhall to explain the how and what of each beach. Each community of owners also will have its own rules for use of swimming pools and common areas and they themselves are obliged to ensure compliance.

The minister of Health, will draw up a document with various scenarios and the corresponding measures in case of outbreaks of the virus that may arise by passing to the new normality. This document will indicate how to deal with more or less outbreaks and whether this will be done with or without alarmstatus. One would not want to end up  in a second total lockdown and that is why this will be checked per autonomie and regions.
The team of experts who have evaluated everything during this period would like to emphasize that in the new normality all measures imposed must be stricktly done and that one does not need to be afraid, but act with respect, as a new epidemic wave must absolutely be avoided and this can only be achieved if people comply with the measures and are responsible.
